The Rebirth of a Movement: How Music & Movie Bloggers Network Got Its Groove (and Back)
Cue the opening riff. Back in the golden internet age of 2010 – before algorithms ran our lives and Spotify Wrapped decided our personalities, a spark of inspiration and serendipity ignited the creation of two unique communities. Two indie digital revolutions quietly dropped their debut: the Movie Bloggers Network and the Music Bloggers Network. These weren’t brands or businesses. They were love letters to art, shared through blogs, tweets, and posts by people who didn’t just consume culture – they curated it.
Born from a potent blend of raw passion, caffeine, and way too many hours spent arguing about best albums and underrated films, we launched both the networks as grassroots communities on Tumblr, Facebook and Twitter. Our goal? Bring together bloggers, writers, fans, critics, musicians, filmmakers, curators, influencers and the loudest people in the comment section under one digital roof. And it worked. A collaborative space where voices from all corners of the film and music world could come together, fostering a rich tapestry of cinema, music, art, discovery and insights.
The Reel Side of the Story
The Movie Bloggers Network quickly became a haven for cinephiles. A place where indie flicks got the same love as blockbusters, where opinions flew faster than popcorn kernels, and where film lovers of all kinds gathered to geek out over cinematography, soundtracks, and whether a film was actually overrated. Filmmakers, screenwriters, cinema critics, bloggers, and movie fans all found their tribe. From deep-dive retrospectives on 1970s noir to spirited debates about who really won the Oscar (and who definitely shouldn’t have), our cinematic collective was the unofficial film club of the internet, much before we had the likes of Lettrboxed.
And while it hasn’t had a flashy website reboot yet, the Movie Bloggers Network community continues to flourish on Facebook and Twitter to this day. It’s still buzzing with hot takes, hidden gems, and film nerd joy. And who knows? Maybe one day, it’ll get a website facelift worthy of a Criterion Collection cover.
Meanwhile, in a Parallel Sound Universe…
While the cinephiles were flexing their IMDB trivia, the Music Bloggers Network was doing its own kind of time travel – crate-digging through Bandcamp, spotlighting bedroom pop, and starting serious conversations about whether lo-fi was just badly mixed or actually brilliant. MBN became a clubhouse for playlist obsessives, lyric breakdown fiends, vinyl evangelists, and music curators who believed good music deserved more than three seconds of TikTok fame. It wasn’t about chasing charts – it was about celebrating sound in all its messy, glorious forms. It aimed to amplify the voices of those who lived and breathed music, providing a platform to share discoveries, champion underrated artists, and celebrate the magic of melodies.
When the Rhythm Slowed
By 2019, things were buzzing. Blogs were signing up, new websites were being built, and the future looked bright. And then, of course, 2020 drop-kicked all our plans. COVID-19 came in like a wrecking ball (without the Miley). Our team, like everyone else, got swept into survival mode. The mobile app flopped, family life got chaotic, and the creative agency we were juggling couldn’t keep all the balls in the air. Plus, our lone investor bailed like a bassist before a gig. By December 2020, we had to admit it: the websites weren’t happening and our Tumblr page was taken down. But weirdly, the community never stopped. Facebook and Twitter stayed alive with banter, blog shares, music finds, and memes. We went from full production to lo-fi mode, but the beat? Still going.
Fast Forward to Now: The Comeback Mixtape
After a few detours, a global pandemic, and several false starts (we’re talking more false starts than a punk band’s first live gig), we’re back. The Music Bloggers Network has officially hit the refresh button, and our new beta website is LIVE.
