Our Story

Building an Independent Blogger and Influencer Community

Uniting Music Bloggers (and Movie Bloggers) of the world

Roughly 4 years ago, this very month, I wrote an impassioned plea to all the movie bloggers on my list about starting a new website for the Movie Bloggers Network. For those unaware, the Movie Bloggers Network is a movie lovers community of movie bloggers, movie critics, filmmakers, actors and film fans I founded in 2010 along with the Music Bloggers Network, an identical online community but aimed at music bloggers and the music scene. Rather too ambitiously, I also invited many movie bloggers to register their film blogs. And many did.

And yet almost 27 months later, in September 2017, I wrote to them sheepishly admitting I failed. Yeah, it sucked so bad. Well, at least I didn’t get it off the ground I originally intended to. I suppose it was largely my own fault. Rotten planning, running a creative agency (that’s my full-time job), too many distractions, too much travel, and an unwilling investor. Or maybe I should blame the self-defeating desire that most of us have – do more than you actually can and being a perfectionist, didn’t help either. Once again, the awful feeling of unfinished resolutions was so overwhelming.

Though I generally tried not to focus too heavily on the business side of running an online network of bloggers, I tried to reason why I failed. I hope you’all agree that maintaining a website is, ultimately a financial cost plus the time and concerted effort to keep it alive and fresh. Particularly in these tough economic times, when headlines are filled with grim tales of corporate implosions, startup failures, and dotcom busts, I felt it was very important to keep all of my fellow bloggers up to date on news from my mothership, so I mailed all of ’em about the unfortunate slow progress and apologized.

As if this was already not sounding like a depressing setup for some sort of a grim announcement, and to the chagrin (and surprise) of many bloggers, I let everyone knew that I had still not given up hope and they could still look forward to not just one but two websites in the future. One for the Movie Bloggers Network and one more for the Music Bloggers Network. But embarrassingly, once again, the sites never took off, suffering false starts and midway abandonments even though both the networks continued to flourish on Facebook, as they still do today. A good example of Murphy’s law at work or you can always blame me.

Anyways, now after 19 months, in an unlikely turn of serendipitous circumstances and the fortunate death of my procrastination (even if it’s temporary), I am happy to announce that the Music Bloggers Network (this beta work in progress website) is now actually live. It’s of course not the Movie Bloggers Network, the initial first website I had in mind, it’s also not as originally envisaged, mobile app on which my team wasted the maximum time has been shelved.

What you have now instead is a nifty little music magazine with its heart and spirit in the right place and enough zeal to push it. We are aspiring to create a music website that hopefully, every music blogger and every music fan will like and love. Designed like a music mag, we want to help you uncover new underrated artists, hear the best songs that you’ve never heard before, read the best music reviews and find the most awesome music blogs from around the world. Our focus is on discovering the new, highlighting what was ignored and reviving the old because there are so so many good artists and so much good music out there that misses mainstream attention.

Nonetheless, if you are one of our earliest supporters and have already registered your music blog for the new website, its time now for you to send us your photograph (nice new pics please), your updated profile and all your web and social links possible. This includes your Facebook profile, your Facebook fan page (if you have one), Twitter, Youtube, Spotify, Instagram, etc) along with a short bio about yourself (in third person voice). Our author pages (still under wraps) are designed to make your profile stand out so the more you share, the better you’ll look.

If you are yet to register, the time is now to join us and become part of the oldest independent blogger and influencer community that’s growing every day and get free niche traffic for your site. You also stand to benefit as an author or contributor and profit from our industry collaborations so it makes sense to register. If you are a music blogger, register here and if you are a movie blogger, register here.

If you appreciate what we are doing and think you can help or contribute in any way, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. When submitting content, don’t plagiarise or libel anybody. If you have a vested interested in anything you write about, please declare it. We want people who write because they care about what they write about. Don’t expect us to promote any of your other projects because you are a contributor. We wish to be independent and fair to all.

In the meantime, it would mean so much if you could help us by tweeting, sharing or writing about us on your blogs and social channels. Thank you!
